What does Window Cleaning Include?
Window cleaning typically involves the following steps:
- Dusting or Brushing: Before wetting the windows, it’s common practice to dust or brush the frames, sills, and surrounding areas to remove loose dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
- Preparation of Cleaning Solution: A cleaning solution is prepared using water and a mild detergent or a specific window cleaning solution. Some people also use vinegar- or ammonia-based solutions diluted in water.
- Application of Cleaning Solution: The cleaning solution is applied to the windows using a spray bottle or a sponge. It’s important to ensure even coverage, especially for heavily soiled areas.
- Scrubbing: For stubborn stains or dirt buildup, scrubbing may be necessary. A non-abrasive scrubbing pad or a window scrubber with a soft bristle brush can be used to gently scrub the glass surface.
- Squeegeeing: After the cleaning solution has been applied and any scrubbing completed, a squeegee is used to remove the solution and dirt from the glass. Starting from the top, the squeegee is pulled downwards in a straight, overlapping motion to prevent streaks.
- Drying and Buffing: Any remaining moisture and streaks are wiped away using a clean, lint-free cloth or microfiber towel. Buffing the glass with a dry cloth can help achieve a streak-free finish.
- Detailing: Finally, the edges and corners of the windows are detailed using a dry cloth or a cotton swab to ensure all traces of dirt and cleaning solution are removed.
